For several days I was afflicted...

For several days I was afflicted with lumbago. Because locomotion was difficult and painful, I stayed at home, doing metaphysical work as we are taught to do in Christian Science. My attention was called to a lecture on Christian Science to be delivered by a member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church. Laboring under great discomfort, I drove my car to the lecture. On the way metaphysical work was continued, and the lecture was followed with unflagging interest. It was several hours after leaving the lecture hall when I suddenly realized that I was free from the pain, and that I had been healed.

No material agency had induced the change or contributed to it. The beneficial effect was the result of a changed concept of body—of a better understanding and comprehension of the truth of spiritual reality. Mary Baker Eddy has made this revealing statement in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 162): "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind."

If we acknowledge that the lumbago was the result of an erroneous mental belief, is there any reason to doubt that any erroneous belief, regardless of how it seems to manifest itself, can be healed as effectively?
