Importance of Church Membership
One marked characteristic of Christian Scientists is their consistent and continuing expression of gratitude. Because this gratitude is Love-inspired, it is not static, but is active and activating, demanding expression. As Christian Scientists respond to this urge of Love for expression in gratitude to God, and to their Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, through whose spiritual teaching they have found the promised Comforter, they are naturally led to get in line with and support Mrs. Eddy's demonstration of organized church activity by joining The Mother Church and one of its branches.
Many earnest students of Christian Science have been abundantly blessed and have experienced great spiritual growth as they have pondered and heeded the spiritual import of our Leader's wise counsel given in The Mother Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 15), where she writes, "God requires our whole heart, and He supplies within the wide channels of The Mother Church dutiful and sufficient occupation for all its members." Even though this "dutiful and sufficient occupation" for some Scientists may consist of being more than doing, spiritual reward and a greater understanding of the works of the Master are assured for all who participate in Mrs. Eddy's demonstration of organized church activity. Alert and loyal practitioners find it helpful to point out to students who come to them for assistance the spiritual advantages which are associated with church membership.
A Small "What Our Leader Says" Panel
The Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy announce an 8×9⅝ inch panel bearing the article by Mrs. Eddy, "What Our Leader Says," from page 210 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." in a border of wild roses in full color. This panel is a successful reduction in size from the large panel of this title which is now discontinued. It is hand-lettered on heavy antique parchment paper and is suitable for framing. The list price is 35 cents; price to Reading Rooms, 28 cents.
The panel may be obtained at Christian Science Reading Rooms or on receipt of remittance will be sent postpaid by Alfred Pittman, Publishers' Agent, One, Norway Street. Boston 15, Massachusetts.
Request for Names of Servicemen and Servicewomen
Camp Welfare Activities of The Mother Church are in operation at stations of the United States Army and Navy. The names and complete mail addresses (including rank) of men and women in the armed forces of the United States here and abroad who are Christian Scientists, or who show an interest in Christian Science, are desired by workers engaged in these activities. Addresses of the servicemen and servicewomen should be sent to Christian Science Camp Welfare Activities by the men and women themselves, by members of their families, or by friends, who may also send changes of address, as promptly as possible, and thus aid in maintaining the effectiveness of the welfare work.
When reporting a change of address, the informant should send the old address, as well as the new one, to
Christian Science Camp Welfare Activities 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15. Massachusetts
The address of one serving in the Canadian forces in a camp in Canada should be sent to the branch church or society nearest the camp. It will then be forwarded by the church or society to the committee carrying on welfare activities at that camp.
It should be made known to servicemen and servicewomen that they are privileged to call on Christian Science Wartime Ministers or volunteer Christian Science Wartime Workers for Christian Science help without charge. The Wartime Minister in any area may be located through a Commanding Officer. Chaplain, or Red Cross worker, or by inquiring at the nearest Christian Science Reading Room.
