Christian Science came into my...
Christian Science came into my life at a time of great need. When I was six months old I became paralyzed from the waist down. I recovered sufficiently to be up and about, and outwardly I was normal; but the internal organs were in such condition that the medical verdict was that I could never have a natural movement of the bowels. I was an irritable, nervous child, with morbid and undesirable traits of character. It was after I had endured this condition for over twenty years that I found Christian Science.
A friend, full of the new-found joy of knowing God as All-in-all, invited me to go with her to the Reading Room of a Christian Science church. I did not wish to go, but because of the urgency of her invitation and because I did not wish to offend her, I went. Knowing of my bitterness at not being able to go to college, she had told me of the educational value of The Christian Science Monitor, so it was to the Monitor that I turned in the Reading Room. I was immediately impressed, for there were so many things to learn in its pages. I went back the next day and every day for thirty days. At the end of that time I realized that I had not taken a nightly cathartic since my first day at the Reading Room. My heart sang for joy. I was healed! A new life opened for me. I became loving and happy. It was possible for me to go to college. I met the man whom I later married. When our two children were born another mandate of mortal mind was annulled, because medical science had said I could never have a child.
My husband's business carried us from city to city. The problem of finding desirable homes within our means was beautifully solved. At one time we both had a case of athlete's foot. Mine was healed within two or three days with the help of a practitioner. My husband, while not opposed to Christian Science, had not accepted it for healing for himself, so it was a year before his healing came.
Over five years ago, an important business deal developed, and my husband decided to take it to a practitioner for help, not so much for himself as for the firm for which he was selling. One night as he pondered over the business along the line recommended by the practitioner, he reasoned that if God could help him in business problems, it was logical He could heal physical difficulties. His feet were so bad at that time and had been for months that the flesh was torn when he removed his socks. He went to bed still thinking of the allness of God. In the morning his feet were normal and have remained so. Later in the day the business transaction was completed, and proved a blessing to the purchaser as well as to my husband and his employer.
Many healings have occurred besides these I have related. But the greatest blessing of all and the one for which I am most grateful to God is the beauty of holiness. God is All! I am deeply grateful for class instruction, for the Christian Science Sunday School, which our children have the privilege of attending, and for my activity in this our great Cause.—(Mrs.) Mayoma Keely, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
