Keene, New Hampshire (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Keene, dedicated its church building on Sunday, June 27, 1943, with services in the morning and afternoon.

A brief history, reviewing the progress of Christian Science in this field, was read by the First Reader, and follows in part: "About the year 1898 a Christian Scientist and a member of her family began to read together each Sunday the Lesson-Sermon given in the Christian Science Quarterly. Another interested person soon joined them, and during the next ten years these weekly meetings were attended by a goodly number.

"The first public services were held in Wildey Hall in the summer of 1908. In 1913 Christian Science Society, Keene, rented a room in the Keene Gas and Electric Company Building in Central Square, where services were held and Reading Room activities were carried on. Two years later a change was made to larger quarters in the same building.

"In 1926 the society voted to buy a house, the present church building, located at 105 West Street. The Christian Science Society was then incorporated under the laws of New Hampshire. This property was fully paid for and the mortgages discharged in May, 1935. Deep gratitude is felt for the gifts and legacies which were received at that time."—Keene Evening Sentinel.
