Spiritual Demands

Those who make the Bible and the works of Mary Baker Eddy their daily study find them filled with constant demands for spiritual understanding of God as divine Principle, as Truth, Life, and Love. Obedience to these requirements brings a joy that rises above all sorrow, peace that overcomes all human strife, and love that conquers all hate.

Mrs. Eddy in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes (p. 233): "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them." How then are we to obey these demands? Surely the first step is to recognize them. In order to do this we must watch every thought, word, and action.

It is easy to recognize the larger demands, but not so easy to realize that the smaller things, which after all are the most numerous, help us not less than the greater ones in attaining that spiritual perfection which Jesus demanded of us. So often one is tempted to overlook the small things and so lose the joy of demonstrating the practical power of Christian Science.
