I wish to express gratitude for Christian Science, for the understanding which Mrs. Eddy has given us of the ever-availability of God as divine Principle, and for the resultant certainty of the operation of spiritual law which comes to us as we learn to apply this Principle in our daily lives.

My first glimpse of how spiritual law works came shortly after I became interested in Christian Science. When we were motoring up a steep gradient in very hilly country, the driver lost control of the car, and we started to run backwards. Then at a curve in the road the right rear wheel ran up an embankment, and the car began to overturn. I declared the truth: "God is governing the situation. Don't be afraid." With this declaration of God's presence and power, the car ceased to overturn, and became stationary at an angle which enabled us to get out. Subsequently we found some men who dislodged the car from the embankment, and we then proceeded on our way unhurt.

I was so grateful for this evidence of God's protection that I had a great desire to give thanks at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. During the hymn before the testimonies, my throat seemed to be held in a vise. Then the thoughts came: "What are you giving thanks for? Surely for the operation of spiritual law! Then why be afraid? The same law will operate for you when you get up to speak." With this, all fear left. I got up to testify, and so had further proof that God's law is always available, but that we must claim its power and availability on our own behalf.
