I had never heard of Christian Science...
I had never heard of Christian Science and did not know it existed until one day I found a copy of The Christian Science Monitor, and through it found a Christian Science Reading Room. There I asked many questions of the attendant, and found them so satisfactorily answered that I purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. According to medical diagnoses, I was seriously ill. For two years I had suffered from pleurisy, followed by tuberculosis of the lungs. The medical faculty seemed to think that a sanitarium was the best place for me.
At this time I found Christian Science, and studied it day and night. When the well-meaning physician came to make arrangements for my entry into the sanitarium, I refused to go. When I told him of my new interest in Christian Science, he said I was crazy and would not live six months.
In three months I was completely healed just from my study of the Bible and Science and Health. For seven years I studied, and had many victories over the lies of mortal mind. Then I broke my foot, and seemed unable to do my own metaphysical work. For the first time, I called a Christian Science practitioner. She came at nine o'clock in the morning and treated me. I fell asleep. At noon I awakened and found that she was gone. I rushed to the telephone to apologize for being so rude as to go to sleep while she was there. While I was waiting for my connection on the telephone, I realized I had walked across the room, completely healed.
