Topic: Choosing the Right

[G. Q. A., in the Lancashire (England) Daily Post, Preston]

Prayer is not asking God to alter any of His plans because we want Him to. It is not a petition that the whole scheme of the universe shall be changed; that the whole progress of God's evolutionary purposes should be hastened or retarded in order that our requests shall be granted.

That is a travesty of the very idea of prayer. When we think of the ignorance, selfishness, and vindictiveness which lie behind many of our so-called prayers, it is perfectly clear that the hope of the world does not lie in that.
