True Praise
To sing God's praises is a joyous thing—
No arduous toil devolves upon this song;
Spontaneous and free, it sweeps along
And skims the peaks of praise on valiant wing.
But, oh, to live the love our words express,
And see our words by kindred deeds defined!
Consistent praise must teach us to be kind,
And honest hearts attain to righteousness.
True praise is practice; it ascends God's throne—
Healing is wrought through scientific prayer.
Herein the world's salvation is secure,
And in the measure it becomes our own,
We shall the gospel of the kingdom share
Until God's holy law alone endure.
