I wish to express my sincere...
I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me and the members of my family. In looking back over the past twenty-one years I find I have had much to be grateful for since I first became interested in Christian Science in 1920. A longing for something more satisfying than the knowledge I then possessed of God, led me to investigate it. During this time we have had innumerable demonstrations of the healing and redemptive power of the Christ, Truth, revealed to us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and it is possible for me to relate here but a small percentage of the healings.
One of my first healings was of the use of tobacco. Shortly after this healing I laid aside my glasses and have never had occasion to use them since. I am grateful for the healing of backwardness and self-consciousness. Fourteen years ago I was elected First Reader of a Christian Science church, and during the three years of service was able completely to overcome these errors of mortal sense. In recent years it has been necessary for me to address groups of employees numbering at times from fifteen hundred to two thousand, and I have been able to do so with perfect ease. I give full credit for this healing to Christian Science.
Three of the children in our family, the eldest twenty years old, have never tasted medicine in any form. They have at times had various so-called children's diseases, but each time were healed by the one Physician, God, the healer of all our diseases. One of our children was healed of membranous croup late at night. He seemed to be passing on, for he was unable to get his breath, but within an hour the healing was complete, and he asked for food. At another time his hearing became impaired, and this condition lasted for several months, interfering with his schoolwork, and causing him to get low grades. At the same time he was suffering from adenoids. These conditions were entirely healed, and the child was on the honor roll during his high school years. He has had no further trouble from these errors, and his hearing is perfect.
Another child was healed of acute appendicitis through Christian Science treatment alone. We are also grateful for many other healings in our home, including those of measles, whooping cough, mumps, bronchial pneumonia, colds, influenza, headaches, warts, corns, and a growth on the hand.
I am particularly grateful for the progress I have made the past two years, spiritually, financially, and in every way. Every day I am experiencing new proofs of God's power, and I pray daily to gain the understanding that will help to bring all mankind to a knowledge of Him as our loving Father-Mother God.
In Science and Health our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says (p. 234), "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science— blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty." I am grateful for proofs of this statement.
I am very grateful for all the activities of our great movement. Above all I am thankful to God for Mrs. Eddy, whose purity, humility, unselfishness, and unceasing effort enabled her to unfold the Bible to all mankind, that they might be freed from bondage to physical and mental discord.— Walter C. Herget, Kingston, Pennsylvania.
