The
extent to which the physical and spiritual needs of mortals are distinguishable the one from the other, and the degree of priority that should be conceded to either, has always been a matter of some perplexity, especially to those who believe that their aspirations are alone concerned with ministering to spiritual needs.
Today
when the world is crying out for deliverance from the evil forces which seem to assail it, the student of Christian Science holds to the truth of the reassuring statement by Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures".
The
question was recently put to the writer whether it would not be more consistent with the teachings of Christian Science to direct our whole effort toward healing the nations by spiritual means alone rather than to take part in helping the democracies to carry on material warfare.
With
attention being given to an urgent desire for designated periods of prayer, not only for ourselves and our country, but for all peoples, we may well ask ourselves, How shall I pray "the effectual fervent prayer" of which James wrote, and which he declared "availeth much"?
Objection
is made to the statement, "The effect of Principle is always good; that of personal sense is never so," but if one accepts the first part of this statement as being true, he will have to agree with the second part, if he would be logical and scientific.
Churches and societies in the United States and Canada wishing to give lectures during the first two months of the next lecture year, namely July and August, 1942, are requested to inform the Board of Lectureship before May 25.
To ensure that complete lecture notices be printed in the Sentinel, detailed information should reach the Journal, Sentinel, and Herald Editorial Department regarding lectures in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain and Ireland, at least seven weeks before the date of the lecture; elsewhere, eight or ten weeks before.
A Quiet
habitation, where my heartMay rest, from fretful cares and troubles freed;Where every kindly act becomes a prayer;Where soft humility clothes every deed;Where drooping thought may rise above the earthTo reach the peak of God's own holy hill!'Tis thus He makes me lie in pastures green,And leadeth me beside the waters still.
To sing God's praises is a joyous thing—No arduous toil devolves upon this song;Spontaneous and free, it sweeps alongAnd skims the peaks of praise on valiant wing.
In gratitude to God and to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to assure others that they, too, can be healed by Christian Science, I wish to give this testimony.
