The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Canton, Ohio (First Church).
Lecturer: Gavin W. Allan; introduced by Mrs. Frances Hamill Seese, who said:—
Our great Master, Christ Jesus, proclaimed, "The kingdom of God is within you," and he proved this fact by his mighty works of healing. In this age, and in our own land, the Science or method of Jesus' healing works was revealed by Mary Baker Eddy. She unselfishly and courageously has shared her great discovery with humanity through her writings and the activities of the church which she founded.
Gratefully I bear witness to the fact that Christian Science revealed the light of the kingdom of heaven to me in the darkest hour. Informed by medical authority that my life would never again be a useful or an active one, I was led, in despair, to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Forgetting myself and my affliction in the joy of finding the great truths revealed in this wonderful book, in little more than a week I found myself running upstairs as lightly and freely as a child. I was healed! I saw a new world, filled with light and joy, which appeared to me where darkness and gloom had appeared before. I had been awakened to a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven, which is ever at hand.
The lecture we shall hear tonight will light the way to the kingdom of heaven for us to the extent that we accept its healing message into our hearts, ponder it, and use it.
Seattle, Washington (Fourth Church).
Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Charles J. Yost, who said:—
Let us not be disturbed by recent world events, but let us rather recall the words of Christ Jesus as recorded by John, "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Through the study of Christian Science we can learn of God's presence, power, protection, and guidance. As we do so, peace and harmony will abound in our consciousness and be manifested in our lives.
When we consider the great good which has come to mankind through the revelation of Christian Science, we are reminded of Paul's words to the people of Corinth, "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."
