There is never a time in life when a man passes beyond the range of the moral claim upon him. He may retire from some office or piece of work, but not from ... duty and service. By reason neither of disappointment nor of sorrow nor of weariness may he contract out of the positive following of the path of duty. Fortitude and steadfastness are not options which a man may relinquish because of the tension in his soul which results from his faithfulness to them. ... The Christian ... sees in life's pilgrimage the way in which, as he walks forward bravely and perseveringly, he treads in the footsteps and follows the example of Jesus.
