[Original testimony in Spanish]
Our little daughter, who was...
Our little daughter, who was born with dislocated hips, was put in a plaster cast for three years. Then she had to wear a leather harness which reached from her waist to her ankles, and which could not be removed, even when she slept. After this treatment had been followed for a time, we asked the doctor who attended her if we could cherish any hope that our little girl would walk some day. This was his reply: "The day you remove that harness she will crumble away like a mound of sand." So there was no hope of saving her, not even of operating on her, and she seemed destined to live in that condition.
About this time a client spoke to me of Christian Science, and to convince me of the truth of his statements he invited me to his house, so that I could judge for myself by the improvement in his small son, who had suffered from infantile paralysis. With the evidence in this case before me, I could not doubt, and I got in touch with the practitioner who was treating his child. She kindly gave me an interview, reassured me with respect to our fear, and restored my confidence by declaring that our little girl would get better.
I was told to remove the harness and to try letting the child sit up, a thing she had never done. That day we complied with the practitioner's recommendation, but the little one complained of great pain in her hips and could not sit up. I consulted the practitioner again, and she insisted on our repeating the attempt, saying the child would feel no pain. From that moment on our little daughter was free from using the leather harness; and one morning she awoke and called to us, saying that she had been able to sit up. Naturally, after this she learned to walk like other children; faith and love were born in her and in us, and we lost all fear.
