Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Michigan.

Although attacks on our movement and misrepresentation of our teachings in the public press have largely ceased, it is still necessary to be watchful. A Chicago attorney recently attacked, in a letter, a columnist who writes for a chain of papers, regarding his stand against the practice of vivisection. In this letter, which was published in sixteen papers, the attorney took occasion to say some unkind things about Christian Science. The reply from this office duly appeared. Two days later the columnist in question devoted his entire column in these papers to a vindication of Christian Science and mentioned specifically the healing of his son.

Because of this publicity, our office received a number of inquiries about Christian Science, and in one instance it was reported that a complete healing was accomplished of a so-called incurable disease, which competent medical advisers had said would prove fatal. A letter received from the person who was healed expressed much gratitude for her liberation, and stated that she and her husband were attending the Christian Science church, and hoped sometime to have the privilege of membership.
