Some years ago I was confronted...
Some years ago I was confronted with the loss of some money as a result of a mismanaged investment, and with this the argument of poor health, which may be briefly outlined as insomnia, endeavored to implant itself in my consciousness. I spent much money for different remedies with but temporary relief. An inability to eat anything seemed to develop, milk being all that I could take. Beginning to lose in weight and feeling weak, I groped about for relief, but did not know where to find it.
One Sunday, as I was crossing a street, the following message came into my consciousness: Go and hear a Christian Science lecture this afternoon. I had read a notice of this lecture a day or two before. I continued on my way and the message came to me again. I was obedient this time and attended the lecture. The following day being Monday, I was at the Reading Room early, purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and then hurried to my room. When I opened the door the first object I saw was the family Bible that I had carried around with me, though I cannot recall reading it up to that time. I read the textbook of Christian Science until late at night and oftentimes until early in the morning. As yet there was no sleep, but I was perfectly comfortable and rested. The day after my purchase of the textbook I was at the office and took up my regular duties.
