Church Work

We have the command, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

The Christian Science church is one means through which we may let our light shine and glorify our Father. It was the purpose of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, "to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 17).

As members of The Mother Church and of its branch churches and societies, we need to keep in thought the illuminating definition of "Church" which our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has given us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she has written on page 583: "Church. The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle. The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick."
