Ever-presence

Our work in Christian Science is done not through an effort to reach up to God or through a straining toward Him past some real obstruction, but through turning thought away from the material illusion to ever-present Spirit, the source of every true thought. A student of Christian Science had for many months been working especially for a fuller understanding and realization of the presence of God, and had been much blessed in so doing. One day during a study hour as she pondered certain words of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the truth which they contained was revealed in a new light. God's nearness or presence was clearer to her than ever before. Quietly and calmly she felt that she communed with Him in confidence and peace.

As this understanding continued to unfold in her consciousness it brought additional blessings. A false sense of responsibility began to disappear. The error of indulging in useless conversation was uncovered, and idle curiosity as to the affairs of others was lost. The student experienced a fuller sense of serenity, of joy, and of security. To become conscious of our oneness with divine Love even in a degree is a joy that nothing can take away.

Those who have realized the nearness of God have found a sacred refuge from all harm. Today countless numbers of men and women are longing for a refuge from the harm and alarm of strife, fear, sin, and sickness. What a blessing it is to know that each individual may take refuge in Truth! To find the way thereto and to help others to find it, is the work of Christian Science.
