I should like to tell of the healing...
I should like to tell of the healing of a baby daughter. I hope it will help someone as I have been helped in Christian Science. At birth she was a healthy, normal baby weighing eight and one half pounds. My milk did not agree with her, and at the age of two weeks she was a very sick baby. The baby specialists, in whose care she was, advised putting her on a bottle. Nothing agreed with her.
We were then living in Oklahoma. We took the baby to the hills of Arkansas, in the hope that a change of climate would help her. We put her on goats' milk while there, but nothing seemed to help her, so I brought her back home to the specialists. She continued to get worse until, at the age of eleven months, she weighed only eleven pounds, and cried continually day and night. Her food did not digest, and I could give her only the amount of food that a normal three-weeks-old baby would take. The last time I took her to the physician he said he had done everything for her that could be done.
I went home feeling very depressed. I had a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist. She had been telling me of the wonderful healings her family had had through Christian Science. I knew she was telling the truth, but I thought it was too good to be true for me and my baby. That night the neighbor came over; the baby was crying as usual. She picked the baby up and asked permission to take her into her home. I went with her. I wanted to turn to Christian Science but was afraid to. She asked me if I wanted to try Christian Science. I said, "Yes." She gave me the address of a practitioner and told me to write to her. While I was writing, the baby was crying, so my neighbor said, "There is no need to let this baby suffer like this all night." She called a practitioner in a distant city. While she was talking to the practitioner the baby ceased crying. The practitioner told me to take the baby home, give her a full bottle of milk, and put her to bed. She told me not to give the baby any medicine and not to fear; the milk would not hurt her.
