As a growing child I had the privilege of reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. My parents had come into contact with this Science while living in a distant city.

During my high school and college days I was greatly helped by Science in solving problems which arose in connection with my academic work. At one time while in college I was called upon to stay with a dear friend and to care for her at night while I was carrying a very heavy program. Through the understanding of Christian Science I was sustained through this trying experience and was able to carry on my academic work without interruption.

Happy and blessed is the young man or woman who has an understanding of Christian Science when he enters a large university or some other institution of higher learning. The teachings of Christian Science were invaluable to me as a guiding and sustaining force. A Christian Science Organization was established at the university, and I had the privilege of becoming one of the charter members. In completing my work for a graduate degree, I was enabled, through the understanding that God supplies ever-present and all-sufficient intelligence to man, to complete two years' work in a year and a half. I was also able to do work for which authorities said I was not sufficiently trained.
