For more than thirty years I...
For more than thirty years I have been a recipient of the benefits of Christian Science. For this great blessing I wish to express my profound gratitude.
I had been reading the Christian Science literature but a very short time when our little daughter passed on. With the hope that one of the means of my awakening from this dream may help someone who may read this, I should like to tell of the wisdom shown by one to whom I turned for consolation. He showed me I must leave my burden of sorrow while I comforted another, and must overcome self-pity with gratitude for Truth. To me it was as though he had said in the words of Paul, "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." The light of Christian Science did enlighten my experience, and my healing came.
I also wish to express my gratitude for a proof of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words (Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 1), "Rest assured you can never lack God's outstretched arm so long as you are in His service." During my term as Second Reader in one of our branch churches, I was taken with a very severe cold, one of the many phases of which was a loss of voice. I could speak only in a raspy whisper. Help was requested from a Christian Science practitioner, and the assurance came that we could not lack Love's sustaining power, and, trusting in that assurance, we made no provision for a substitute Reader, although I was still whispering when I arrived at the church, and up to the call to go to the platform. When the time came for me to speak, however, the voice was there in its usual clearness and strength. Again divine Love had met the human need—in this case, the need of a voice with which to speak His Word.
