The Presence of God

"The upright shall dwell in thy presence," says the Psalmist. The Master, Christ Jesus, dwelt always in God's presence, speaking as the Father said, doing as He commanded, that the world might know his absolute love and oneness with God, eternal good.

"Now is my kingdom not from hence," said Jesus; and Mary Baker Eddy has written (No and Yes, p. 36), "Jesus' true and conscious being never left heaven for earth." Jesus' access to the Father in spiritual communion was his strength and protection. He availed himself of no human means of self-justification or support, because his mission demanded something far higher, even the complete subjugation of human selfhood. That the power of Love may be seen as supreme, calls for something more than mere human triumph, for Christ's kingdom is "not from hence."

Spiritual unity with God, the reflection of divine Love and obedience to Truth, is man's right and necessity in divine Science. The way is found in Christ, in love and brotherhood, the avenues of God's grace and the evidence of His presence; and the Christ-consciousness can be attained only as spiritual sense is illuminated by Mind's ideas through prayer and consecration. In the spiritual illumination of prayer we may come into the presence of God, see the perfection of His beauty and the wealth of His love towards us; gain an ever-increasing sense of man's true identity in Love, and learn to do as the Father commands, and so reflect the divine Life and find this to be man's only Life.
