Spirit's Constant Supply

"The divine Spirit supplies all human needs." Thus writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 42 of "No and Yes." There are in the world today many thousands of men and women who have discerned and proved the truth of our Leader's statement. Not all, however, are making full use of the teachings of Christian Science regarding supply. They will become ready for this in proportion as they study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and other works by our Leader. They will learn much about supply from the actual demonstration of the sufficiency of Spirit in this regard. It is of great importance, therefore, that Christian Scientists, more than merely declaring the truth about God's ever-present abundance, should show forth practical demonstrations of this fact. They should be proving the truth in their daily affairs.

A comparatively young student of Christian Science, engaged in selling insurance, found himself in debt and with less than three dollars in hand. He had a family to provide for and several creditors who were pressing for overdue payments. One day, while worried and disheartened, he visited a Christian Science Reading Room and was led to tell his story to the attendant. He was advised to stop hurrying hither and yon for business and quietly to ask God for guidance, remembering that "the divine Spirit supplies all human needs." The student spent two full days in the Reading Room in prayer and study. On Saturday afternoon, upon going to his office desk, he found a note asking him to call at once on the president of a large industrial concern, a man with whom he had only the slightest acquaintance. Here mortal mind argued: "Too late, now! You have been spending too many hours in the Reading Room." Nevertheless, the student went at once to the industrialist's office and was given business which was sufficient to remove all debt and provide for every human need for several months to come. There had been no previous conversation between these two men about insurance. The official had noticed the student in attendance at church and, learning that he sold insurance, had been moved to turn the business his way.

The student had sought to maintain a willingness to forget self, a genuine desire to let God guide and govern, a prompt obedience to the leadings of Love, and readiness to serve when called upon for aid. The culmination of these mental phases in the unfolding of Love's supply constituted a realization of the promise of God to His children.
