Today

I need not dread the tasks tomorrow brings,
Nor fear to tread what seems a darkened way;
With gratitude my soaring spirit sings
As from this thought a sweet assurance springs:
I only have to trust God more today!

My Father knows the place He'd have me fill;
Outlines the work that He would have me do,
And by reflection I may do His will—
Not of myself. Both pride and fear are still;
His angels guide and guard the whole day through.

No claim of lack of time or substance stands;
My Father would not meet but half my need!
With good and perfect gifts He fills my hands,
Gives strength to carry out His dear commands.
All this is mine today—no cause to plead.

So, eagerly upon the threshold fair
Of God's today I pause, rejoicingly.
Whate'er He bids me do, alert to dare,
Fulfilling all my tasks with love and prayer,
I work my Father's work, serene and free!
