From the Directors

The "Order of Service" for the Wednesday evening meetings in Christian Science churches and societies, as given in the Manual of The Mother Church (p. 122), includes "Reading from the Bible, and correlative passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

The selections read at a Wednesday evening meeting, however, do not constitute a Lesson-Sermon, as do those read at the Sunday services. It is the privilege and duty of the First Reader to select passages from these two books for reading at the Wednesday evening meetings, and through prayer and demonstration to choose those that will be particularly helpful in relation to the purpose of the testimony meetings, which is to bring out healing, or on any other subject which seems important and timely. It is not desirable, and is contrary to established policy, to attempt to conform the selections to the subject of the Lesson-Sermon being studied at the time by Christian Scientists, or to use the Lessons given in the Christian Science Quarterly. Through coincidence, however, occasionally some of the same citations may be used that are also in the Lesson-Sermons. Naturally, the selections from Science and Health are explanatory of what is read from the Bible, or at least they bear out the subject on which the Bible reading is based.
