The Law of Immortality
When the Apostle Paul wrote the Ephesians that there is "one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all," he must have discerned that God, infinite good, is omnipresent and universal. Furthermore, he evidently saw that the one infinite consciousness or divine Mind is expressed in, through, and by individual consciousness or spiritual man. In other words, he understood that the individual sons of God manifest the fatherhood of God, that they reflect perfectly the nature of their creator—divine Mind or Spirit.
On page 63 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being."
Since "the beautiful, good, and pure" constitute the ancestry of man, it is obvious that man has no evil heritage of impurity or contamination. And since "Life is the law of his being," it is equally plain that man is not subject to death and dissolution. Man is under the law of immortality. It is the law for man to live eternally. Immortality is, therefore, not optional, but mandatory, and the knowledge of this divine fact, even, perhaps, in limited degree, is helping students of Christian Science to attain assurance of the continuity of existence. They are, therefore, able to face the human possibility of passing through an experience called death with equanimity, knowing that such an experience, if it came, would not terminate, nor even interrupt, their conscious activity. And Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 251), "In the illusion of death, mortals wake to the knowledge of two facts: (1) that they are not dead; (2) that they have but passed the portals of a new belief."
