Among the Churches

Current Notes

Hingham, Massachusetts (First Church).—Dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hingham, were conducted on Sunday, June 8, 1941, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. In addition to the regular Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, the subject of which was "God the Only Cause and Creator," the history of the present church was read. Some outstanding waymarks follow [in part]:

"Christian Science Society, Hingham, was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church in 1923. After the opening of a Reading Room in the Sprague Block, corner of Main and South Streets, in June, 1929, application was made to become First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hingham.

"A building fund had been opened in 1928, and the present site, corner of Main Street and Arnold Road, was purchased in 1932. Ground was broken for the church building on May 27, 1939, and the first service held in the new edifice on September 10, 1939.
