Embodying Good

In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 307) Mary Baker Eddy has written, "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." The demonstration of this profound truth is possible to all, regardless of the nature of the problem presenting itself.

Christian Science is an exact Science, and one who practices it must state its Principle with precision and accuracy. Ceaseless prayer is the demand of the hour, but formalism must be guarded against. Each case is individual and presents unlimited opportunities for spontaneity of thought and spiritual vision.

Some years ago, a student of Christian Science was confronted with a problem of disease. She knew it had to be solved quickly, because it was necessary for her to make a journey at a certain hour. Work was immediately begun, but with no healing result. Soon she realized that there seemed to be two distinct claims to be met. Fear—aggressive, persistent, and mesmeric—suggested that she would be unable to leave at the appointed hour and, also, that she was the victim of an epidemic of influenza. These two subtle errors were producing a third—a human attempt to heal with a barrage of words. With this uncovering came the words of Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 192), "The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable." Instantaneous healing followed.
