When expressing gratitude for my wonderful healing in...
When expressing gratitude for my wonderful healing in Christian Science, my first thought is to sing praises to God for having given us Christ Jesus; for having inspired Mary Baker Eddy to discover Christian Science; and also for having given us faithful, loyal practitioners, such as the one who so lovingly and patiently helped me to understand the truth while it was healing me.
I had heard of Christian Science several years before my healing, but not being ready to accept it, I made the excuse that I was probably not good enough; and it was not until five doctors and two specialists had pronounced me incurable, because of tuberculosis of the kidneys, that the seed which had been planted bore fruit. I had suffered torturing pain night and day for eight weeks, and was seemingly at the end of endurance, when I decided to call a practitioner on the telephone and ask him to help me. That was on a Monday evening, and as a result of one absent treatment, I felt some relief and had some sleep that night. He asked me to discontinue taking medicine, and I was obedient, not touching medicine, though the pain persisted. Tuesday night I slept ten hours. On Wednesday, after the third treatment, the pain completely disappeared, and I was healed. That occurred twenty-two years ago, and the healing has been permanent. I have never since even been tempted to resort to medical remedies, although I have had other physical problems to meet, such as tonsillitis, sciatica, colds, and burns.
This all took place at a time when I seemed to have nothing for which to live. Since then Christian Science alone had made my life well worth living. Everything I am or hope to be I owe to its healing ministry. I can never put into words my gratitude for it, and for having been so patiently guided in the truth by the practitioner, until I was in a measure able to stand alone for and with God.
