A kindly reference to Christian Science made recently by a speaker at a large gathering of church dignitaries and laymen in the state is appreciated. He said, as quoted in your paper: "Christian Scientists . . . are a group of the learned. They believe in a religion of power," adding the phrase, "however much they may mix up vagaries in their faith." It might be inferred that there are certain vagaries connected with the practice of Christian Science.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." writes in that work (Pref., p. vii), "A book introduces new thoughts, but it cannot make them speedily understood." The great master Christian, Christ Jesus, said: "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."

Referring to John's declaration as recorded in his book of Revelation, "And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud . . . and he had in his hand a little book open," Mrs. Eddy makes this arresting statement (ibid., p. 558): "This angel or message which comes from God, clothed with a cloud, prefigures divine Science. To mortal sense Science seems at first obscure, abstract, and dark; but a bright promise crowns its brow. When understood, it is Truth's prism and praise." She continues (p. 559), "This angel had in his hand 'a little book,' open for all to read and understand."
