"The world has need of you"

[Written Especially for Young People] [Original article in French]

ACCORDING to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus one day went up into a mountain, and when his disciples came to him he said: "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." These words of the beloved Master are casting their bright light today on the path of all faithful adherents of the religion which he came to establish, and are guiding them to the spiritual altitude where they may have the inspiration necessary for making known the universal truth regarding God and His perfect creation.

Children who have the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School learn at a very early age to follow the example of Christ Jesus, who, throughout his earthly career, gave tangible proofs of the superiority of spiritual harmony over the discords of the material senses by healing ills of every description. Sunday after Sunday the young pupils learn how to utilize the understanding of divine Principle, according to the method exemplified by the Master. They can, one and all, accept and reflect the light which must "shine before men," for unceasingly the Christ, Truth, illumines the receptive thought. Even the very little ones can understand the truth, declare it, and demonstrate it, thus putting into operation in their daily lives the absolute power of divine Science. For none are too young to refuse to listen to the lying suggestions of error, or too small to receive the right thoughts which God give impartially to all. Each one can face childhood's problems by realizing he has his place now in the perfect harmony of God's creation, thus denying the evidence which testifies of a second creation, separate from God. Each individual triumph aids humanity in glorifying the Father. What joy floods the heart of one who, through demonstration, can offer to the world a spiritual victory over the false material senses!

When the moment comes to leave the Sunday school, the student can go forward rich in conclusive experiences and with arms loaded with an abundant spiritual harvest. Crossing for the last time the threshold of the classroom which has been for him a peaceful spiritual home, the young student will not feel like a ship without a compass, if he will allow himself to be guided in the direction indicated by divine Love. For one thing, young Christian Scientists can become members of The Mother Church and of a branch church, in which they will find many opportunities to exercise their capacities as spiritual builders.
