Many years ago I wrote a testimony, stating that two week's study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, had completely healed me of semi-invalidism, due to heart disease. During the following years this book has been my only physician. Ills and aches of various types have often come along, but in every case they have been silenced with the truth which makes us free. In Science and Health is to be found the full and clear explanation, or revelation, of how Truth heals and makes free, as Jesus declared it would.
The Master said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." In her textbook (p. 449) Mrs. Eddy gives a correlative statemen, in these words: "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth."
I am sincerely grateful for the many physical healings that I have had, but far more so for the spiritual uplift, the regeneration, that is bound to follow the consecrated study of the Bible and Science and Health. It is a comfort to realize that Christian Science is preventive as well as curative. Often, through the understanding of this great fact, I have been able to protect myself from discordant conditions. At one time I attended a business meeting which was very inharmonious. The confusion of many human opinions seemed to rob me of poise. After a few moments of quiet communion with God, peace was restored to my thought, and I was able to rise above the inharmonious condition with a clear sense of the truth of John's words, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God." The meeting came to close, to be followed in the near future with a more important one. From this experience I decided there was some clear thinking for me to do to establish in my own thought the fact of the one perfect Mind, governing all. Realizing that Christian Science acts as a preventive, I began to do my work as Mrs. Eddy has taught us to do. The hour for the meeting arrived. I was very grateful for the sense of joy and calm which filled my consciousness, and everyone in that room, about seventy-two of us, seemed to me to overflow with a sense of gladness. I was the only Christian Scientist in the group, and after going on the platform—I was designated to be one of the speakers—I knew and felt God's presence surrounding me. The meeting, though calling for keen debate, went quietly on, lasting for one hour and forty-five minutes. Wise decisions were arrived at for progressive work to follow.
