Referring to the criticism by "Churchman" of the teaching...

Referring to the criticism by "Churchman" of the teaching of Christian Science in regard to Christ Jesus, I would point out that Jesus never claimed to be God. For instance, he said: "My Father is greater than I;" "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God;" and, "I can of mine own self do nothing." But when Jesus spoke of the Christ, the divine ever-present idea of God, he was able to say with conviction, "Before Abraham was, I am."

As followers of Christ Jesus, Christian Scientists endeavor to understand the Christ, Truth. In proportion as they do this they are enabled to follow the example of the Way-shower by healing all forms of sickness and sin.

The fact that "his word was with power" astounded the Pharisees, but in the light of Christian Science this is natural. There is no limit to the power of the Christ, Truth, to heal and save. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 224, 225): "No power can withstand divine Love. What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God? Whence cometh it? What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free."
