Spiritual Identity

Each individual idea represents real being, since the real man reflects God, divine Mind. It is to Mind, therefore, one must turn in order to discover his true identity. Each individual idea expresses the spiritual qualities of God. Man's spiritual birthright is the God-given ability to reflect these spiritual qualities. God, divine Principle, being the only source of man's being, man is wholly dependent on Him for his individuality and identity.

God, Spirit, is the only cause or creator. Man, being the perfect representation of his creator, is spiritual and not material. We know this is the truth about man, and we identify man as the spiritual idea of God. He is not mortal, living in a material world and subject to material laws, but is spiritual, living, moving, and having his being in Spirit, and subject only to the laws of Spirit. Understanding man's spiritual identity enables us to be more loving, more considerate, and more forgiving. We shall find ourselves healthier and wiser, as we identify our true being with God.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes on pages 470 and 471, "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history."
