Christian Science and Youth
The blessings of Christian Science are not more available or advantageous for some than for others. They are fully available for all; but it is useful to recognize and understand the outstanding attraction which this Science has for young people. The obvious reason for the attraction is that Christian Science offers what is actually needed and therefore to be sought by those who are soon to begin carrying on for themselves, or have recently begun to do so.
What are some of these needs? Suitable employment is one; and Christian Science, as it begins to be understood, silences all question as to the availability of such employment for anyone. It shows that both the opportunity and the ability are present and demonstrable for everyone. In proof of this fact it presents numberless instances in which people who were out of employment or unsatisfactorily employed, and had not known where to look in merely human way for the remedy, have presently found themselves happily at work, through the study and use of Christian Science.
It must be conceded, however, that work alone, or even work that is sufficiently remunerative and in pleasant surroundings, is not all that young people desire in the way of employment. There is among them, commonly, a deepseated desire that what they have to give shall not be wasted, that it shall be fully developed and used for some worth-while purpose. Christian Science soon shows to anyone that he is capable of more than in the ordinary human manner he had believed, that indeed in his real nature he expresses the capabilities of infinite Mind, or God; and it points out to each one the sure way in which he may demonstrate these larger capabilities, not for the benefit of himself alone, or of a few only, but of all mankind. For Christian Science shows that everyone has the opportunity of serving mankind; and it teaches how this is to be done.
