The Psalmist of old sang: "Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness." In this age, because of the loving gift of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we may well sing this hymn. Our beloved Leader not only discovered the practical Science of Jesus' teachings, but also founded the Christian Science movement, for which people all over the world are increasingly grateful. Here I want to tell of my experience in the hope that it may encourage someone.
About four years ago, my "extremity" was truly "God's opportunity." Previous to this time I had had a year's training in a hospital, and had become very ill. According to medical science, I had contracted tuberculosis, and it had progressed so long unheeded that I was pronounced incurable. Then they gave me only six months to live. Desperately I grasped at any hope held out to me. I was skeptical toward what I considered Christian Science to be, but because my mother wished me to do so, I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help.
Through the practitioner's clear understanding of Truth, the condition was gradually overcome. Three weeks later I removed glasses, which I had worn for fifteen years. As the practitioner patiently guided me out of the various phases of fear, I began to glimpse the truth. I had not though of my eyes being healed, but now I know that the healing was divinely natural, for on page 281 of Science and Health our Leader writes: "Spirit and matter no more commingle than light and darkness. When one appears, the other disappears." I am grateful for all the different activities through which Christian Science comes to us.
