I wish to express my deepest gratitude to God for the Way-shower, Christ Jesus, for divine Science, and for the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, Mary Baker Eddy. I shall never cease to be grateful for the faith in God taught me in a Protestant Sunday school. This faith, coupled with the understanding gained in Christian Science of the truth about God and man, enables me to realize that Life is eternal.
At one time I was suffering from tubular pregnancy and chronic appendicitis, which was considered incurable except by operation. The only operation I had was performed by the quick, powerful, and sharp sword of Truth. A few months later, somewhat prematurely, twin girls were born. Great inharmony again seemed rampant; the babies were not expected to live, and every effort was made to stop the severe hemorrhages which I was having. All beliefs that material qualities or quantities are necessary for strength and endurance were proved groundless. Some days later, when I started to walk, one leg was shorter than the other, causing a noticeable lameness. Someone remarked about this condition, and I realized instantly that I must not accept it. My reply was one word, "No." That was the end of the lameness.
I took entire charge of the two girls. I had no one who could give me advice in such an extremity, and started out alone with this problem. I turned wholly and unreservedly to God for each successive stage of advancement, always knowing, with absolute faith, that God took care of their every need. In spite of the experience I had been through, I had strength to keep up the care of them night and day for three months with no help.
