Christ and Anti-Christ

At the time Christ Jesus was asked to describe some of the signs that would precede and accompany the second coming of Christ, he said, "There shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

Since the time in which Jesus spoke there have appeared many false prophets advocating the adoption of various theories and philosophies which they put forth in the name of Christ, but which did not partake of its divine nature. These spurious teachings have not proved permanent because they have not been based upon Principle, but they have sometimes seemed temporarily to deceive many. However, they are all phases of anti-Christ.

The prefix "anti" is used in connection with many words and terms. For example, we speak of that which is antisocial, anti-religious, and so forth. The latter would naturally be thought of as including atheism, paganism, occultism, animal magnetism, and all forms of philosophy which oppose the spiritual idea of God, on which the Christian religion is founded. Therefore it is opposed to Christian Science, which is a reinstatement of primitive Christianity as it was taught and practiced by Jesus, the master Christian.
