"Launch out into the deep"

[Written Especially for Young People]

In the Scriptures the story is told that two fishing boats were side by side on the shore of Lake Gennesaret. The fishermen had left the ships and were washing their nets, convinced they could not catch any fish. When Jesus came that way and saw the two ships, he entered into one which belonged to Simon, and asked him to "thrust out a little from the land." When Jesus had finished speaking to the people "out of the ship," he said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught."

Simon may have felt the futility of such a move, for he had fished all night and caught nothing; but he was obedient. "At thy word I will let down the net." he said. "And when they had this done," the account continues, "they inclosed a great multitude of fishes."

Have we not all had experiences similar to that of Simon—fishing, yet catching nothing? Perhaps we have been looking for our supply in matter rather than turning to God as the source of all good.
