Among the Churches

Current Notes

Woonsocket Call and Reporter

Woonsocket, Rhode Island (First Church).—Morning and evening dedicatory services were held at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Woonsocket, on June 11, 1939, at which time a brief history of the church was read by the First Reader.

On January 1, 1921, this church, starting as a Christian Science Society, became a branch church of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1929, land was purchased as a site for the present building, the cornerstone of which was laid on April 15, 1930. Services were held in the completed building on August 3 of the same year.

A Reading Room is maintained in the church building. Christian Scientists say they are grateful because the dedication of a Christian Science church means that the church has progressed to the point where it is free from all indebtedness.—Woonsocket Call and Reporter.
