Topic: Overcoming the World

[Editorial in the St. Louis (Missouri) Globe-Democrat]

What the world needs today, what the world must have, if peace is to be restored to it, if righteousness, truth, and honor are again to become controlling virtues in the affairs of men, yea, even if sanity is to be regained, is a return of faith—faith in God, faith in the leadership of Jesus Christ. For to the extent that men have lost faith in a power above and beyond themselves, a moral power that exalts and strengthens the instincts, the emotions, and the thoughts toward the higher levels of human values, ... to that extent they have effaced moral standards and have opened the doors to all the evils that degrade the spiritual ideals of civilization, and make way for the destructive forces which prey upon material welfare as well. ...

But God has not left man to grope his way unaided through the complexities of life, nor has He withheld from man the power of His hand. ... The power of God, in the conduct of men, is not expressed in material force. For His is the divine power of love. If we want to know how that power is exercised, we have but to look at Jesus and listen to his teachings.
