Loyalty

Loyalty," which a dictionary defines as "unswerving allegiance; enthusiastic or reverent attachment as to a sovereign or a cause; constancy," needs to be expressed by every student of Christian Science, if he would render loving service to God and to his fellow men.

"Enthusiastic or reverent attachment as to a sovereign or a cause" is joyously rendered when we learn in Christian Science that God, divine Mind, being the creator and governor of the universe, including man, is our only sovereign. Mary Baker Eddy states (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 183): "Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty." And individuals throughout the world are rendering grateful allegiance to the Cause of Christian Science because of discordant conditions overcome through the application of its teachings.

Christian Science teaches that God, Spirit, is the only creator, and that He made man in His image and likeness, spiritual, perfect, harmonious, eternal. Careful study of the synonyms for God gives one a better understanding of Him and of man as His likeness. We learn to prove our loyalty to Him by expressing His qualities—by living a life of intelligence, purity, joy, uprightness, honesty, activity, kindness. We learn in Christian Science of the allness of God and the nothingness of evil, and through the realization of these facts we manifest better health, better character, and more lasting happiness. In these ways we prove our loyalty to God.
