"The way leads upward"
MULTITUDES today are according grateful recognition to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for her revelation of Truth and the positive proof that it is demonstrable. In spite of Truth's availability to all, however, one sometimes hears the statement, "It is very strange that my problem has not yet been met." That "yet" is a very revealing word, for it shows that the individual is still clinging to false belief. The reason for the failure to solve the problem may be insufficient study; it may be the cherishing of a false sense of hatred, fear, self-pity, or self-will; it may be the reluctance to give up material pleasures for what seem to be the intangible things of Spirit. But whatever the cause appears to be, the answer in Christian Science is always the same: there is no condition which Truth cannot meet when understood and honestly and consistently applied.
Mrs. Eddy tells us in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. viii), "The question, What is Truth, is answered by demonstration,—by healing both disease and sin; and this demonstration shows that Christian healing confers the most health and makes the best men." Through Christian Science we understand man's unity with God. We understand that man, made in the image and likeness of God, can express only Godlike qualities; that he is perfect because God is perfect; that he possesses by reflection the intelligence, wisdom, power, substance, of Life, Truth, and Love; that he is always at one with the Father, receiving directly and uninterruptedly Mind's constant expression of good.
Christ Jesus, the master Christian, demonstrated unfailingly the truth of being. His healings were spontaneous, instantaneous, and permanent, because his understanding was consistent and fixed in Truth. In the divine gift of Christian Science to the world, we today have the perfect means of healing, for in Christian Science is found the fulfillment of Jesus' promise, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."
