Twenty-one years ago I read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Since that time Truth has been my only medicine, healing me of numerous difficulties, sometimes quickly, at other times greater patience and perseverance have been required. One healing especially stands out in my thought.

Our Leader writes on page 410 of the textbook, "The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love;" and on page 22, "If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race." While I realize that there is no advantage in a slow healing, I have found that there is great disadvantage in being discouraged.

A condition developed which seemed very much like hay fever or sinus trouble. Mortal belief suggested many causes for this. In the degree that each was denied reality and power, as we are taught in Christian Science, and the truth affirmed that the only cause is God, the suffering would abate. The symptoms would return, however, so I looked up the word "membranes" in the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's works, and found in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 210) the statement, "Intemperance begets a belief of disordered brains, membrances, stomach, and nerves." This I had read many times before, but since I had never used tobacco or liquor it had escaped my notice.
