Our Sunday School

[Original article in German]

In the Manual of The Mother Church Mary Baker Eddy has established the rules relating to the Christian Science Sunday School. A Sunday school which is conducted according to these By-Laws and in which God, divine Mind, is seen to be the source of inspiration, helps both teacher and pupil to rejoice in unfoldment and progress, and is under the direct protection of divine Principle. The Sunday school teacher has the great privilege of presenting God to the pupils as He is, the only cause and creator, the All-in-all. The teacher strives through study and inspiration to present accurately in thought and speech the truth, as revealed in Christian Science.

Referring to Christ Jesus, Mrs. Eddy writes in "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 91), "To the students whom he had chosen, his immortal teaching was the bread of Life." What did Jesus teach? He taught the fundamentals of divine theology, the truth about God and man; and to follow him in his teaching requires a correct and growing understanding of his mission and of his healing method. Only in this way can the ideal, practical, positive, and pure religion of Christian Science be imparted to pupils in our Sunday school. There are small, bigger, and grown-up pupils to instruct, and all of them need the same work, the same loving, by reflecting the one Mind, the one Love.

The pupil should be taught the great privilege of making the Bible his "sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 497). Our "supreme statute-book, the Bible," as our Leader calls it (ibid., p. 437), contains examples of the overcoming of error in all situations, by the patriarchs and prophets, and especially by Christ Jesus and his followers. May not the youngest pupil learn that the first chapter of the Bible presents a comprehensive statement of God's perfect creation?
