Signs of the Times

Topic: The Power of Prayer [J. L. Newland, in the Frederick Leader, Oklahoma]

Are the petitions of our lips sincere? Do we really want that for which we ask in our prayers?

Before we can answer these questions correctly, we must realize that it is our attitude toward God and men which really constitutes our asking. If a man should ask to be admitted into a house, and refuse to walk through the open door he would not be showing any desire to enter. If one should voice a desire to work out a problem in mathematics, or a demonstration in chemistry, but neglect to apply the principles of either science, he could not be given credit for sincerity.
