In a recent issue I note a review of a book purporting to show that Mary Baker Eddy contradicted herself. No one who really understood the Science of being which Mrs. Eddy teaches would make such a statement. Many individuals have misunderstood the Bible. In like manner, those persons who have not comprehended Mrs. Eddy's words, which were written with the same spiritual intent, have claimed that she was wrong.

Your reviewer asserts that the author of the book in question disproves that Mrs. Eddy "was the original Discoverer of Christian Science in 1866."

That Mary Baker Eddy was the original Discoverer of Christian Science in 1866 is a fact. She gave to the world "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468). This is the most profound scientific truth promulgated since Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated the power and love of God among the hills of Judea and upon the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The fact of Mrs. Eddy's discovery and founding of Christian Science, her organizing of a "church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17), can no more be disproved by shallow criticism and incompetent testimony than can the fact that two multiplied by two is four.
