It is with a deep sense of humility and gratitude that I express my appreciation of Christian Science, that revelation of a wonderful heritage which Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, has given to mankind. Christian Science has brought many blessings into my life and our home. Our two children have never known medical treatment, or any other religious teaching.
Some years ago, I witnessed the healing of a small child in a family where I lived at the time. A Christian Science practitioner was called for the child, who was in a dying condition. For six or eight weeks, physicians had been unable to diagnose or heal the illness. The practitioner was called at four o'clock in the afternoon; and by seven o'clock that evening the child was playing about with his toys. The experience aroused me to serious thought. I determined to call upon the practitioner to learn more about Christian Science.
I had then no apparent physical needs. Up to this time I had never given religion much consideration. I had not been inside a church for years, though I believed that there were reasonable and right rules of conduct which mankind should follow. However, the understanding of Truth gained from subsequent interviews with the practitioner changed my whole view of life. I was quickly healed of all desire for liquor, tobacco, profanity, and reliance upon material medicine or other material means.
