In a recent issue, under the heading, "What Do You Think?" there was a letter from a correspondent who recently attended a Christian Science lecture, and I should appreciate space in your column to reply to his observations.
Christian Science teaches that God is infinite Mind, and that He is the creative, governing Principle, a God of love, as the Scriptures declare Him to be. Mary Baker Eddy writes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 516), "God fashions all things, after His own likeness;" adding, "Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth." This statement is in accord with the first chapter of Genesis. Since the Bible declares that everything God made is good, and that there is no other power or creator, we are justified in taking our stand on this declaration; and from this starting point we can proceed to prove the unreality of the things He did not make, such as fear, disease, and other phases of evil.
In her "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) Mrs. Eddy declares: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Christ Jesus affirms, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." Dr. Alexis Carrel, eminent surgeon, says: "Our curiosity must turn aside from its present path, and take another direction. It must leave the physical and physiological in order to follow the mental and the spiritual."
