"Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. . . . Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!"

Our way was often burdensome and led through sickness, family quarrels, and great financial losses. In all our distress God, as Christian Science reveals Him, was our only refuge, support, and help. The lesson we learned from our trials was that many thoughts are cherished and cultivated which have nothing in common with God, Love, Truth, and intelligence, and therefore bring unpleasantness in their wake until, shaken out of the drowsy sleep of mortal mind, we leave the false support, and, as Paul says, "press toward the mark," toward the apprehension of divine Mind.

We are especially grateful for our little son's healing, which took place seven years ago. In the beginning, both our children had chicken pox. Our little girl was over it in two days, but our little boy had in addition a very nigh fever, and the next day convulsions as well. In the evening my husband called a Christian Science practitioner. The peace and fearlessness which came into our home with her, and never again left us during the child's sickness, made a very great impression on my husband and are still fresh in our memory. The following night the little fellow was not quiet five minutes in succession, because of pain. The next morning we again reported to the practitioner, who at once gave us loving help, with the result that in a short time the little fellow was lying quietly in his bed. From then on, things went better every day. How happy we were when, after three weeks, the child was again toddling about. He was then three years old.

Due to a fall I suffered from concussion of the brain and a sprained arm, both of which were healed in a week through loving help. We did not summon any physician other than Christian Science.

Deep though our gratitude is for the many healings we have experienced, our joy and thanks for the knowledge gained from them are even deeper.

With reverent esteem and profound gratitude we think of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, as well the many practitioners who, with loving patience, bring us nearer the truth and the light. we are serving in a Christian Science Society with great gratitude, and rejoice in membership in The Mother Church.— (Mrs.) Emma Freithurnheer, Berneck, Canton St. Gall, Switzerland.

I am very happy to corroborate the statements of my wife and to be privileged to add a report of my own experiences. I have been interested in the religion of Christian Science for many years. I had observed in and outside of my family healings which set me to thinking. But what seemed to hinder my gaining benefit myself were chiefly human idealism and optimism. Through losses and disillusionments in people and also in my ideals, I suffered a breakdown and thence fell into mental confusion. From that arose my one desire to find the way to mental freedom. This sincere longing formed the foundation for changes which awakened in me new hope and confidence.

The more I concerned myself with Christian Science, the more I came into conflict with my family. But as I beheld the way to freedom through the truth I understood, this became more important to me than family feelings. Joyfully I can testify that today love and happiness prevail in my marriage as never before, so that instead of misunderstanding and difference of opinion, unity and joy are present.

Through maintaining the facts of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), and other declarations by Mrs. Eddy, I experienced the following wonderful healing. Within a short period my eyes were injured three times by iron particles, so that both eyes were badly inflamed. Since I refused to have the particles removed by a doctor, and the healing did not come in spite of help from Christian Science, I was uncomfortable in the presence of non-Scientists. Because I was accused of being irresponsible, unreasonable, and foolish, the practitioner left me free, if I wished, to have the doctor remove the particles. But I was determined to withstand the fear. After a struggle of several days between fear and trust, I came to a humble attitude of prayerful thought, and this attitude brought relief. The next day, on account of urgent work, I was compelled to be at my post. In spite of steady welding and other flame-and-smokeproducing work, I was able to carry on, and was healed in two days. At the same time I was also freed from difficulties of hearing.

I am striving to do my utmost to prove my gratitude.
